I know what you're thinking, "you rushed a sorority!?" If you had asked me a few months ago, I never would have considered rushing a sorority. I always imagined Elle Woods from Legally Blonde whenever someone said sorority. It wasn't until I found this specific sorority that I considered it. For those of you that don't know, Rush Week is essentially when you get to know the people in the sorority, and the Sisters can decide if you're a good fit. The sorority I decided to rush had 5 events; Info Night, Rollerblading, a Semi-Formal Mixer, Clay Cafe, and Board Game Cafe. As an extreme introvert that was a lot of socializing in a short period of time. However, I wasn't able to go to a few of the events because I had class, so I really only had to socialize 3 times. So why did I decide to join a sorority? Last year, I went to a university 16 hours away from home and I didn't know anyone. I was so overwhelmed that I didn't join any clubs, and I didn't meet many people. This year, going to a new school, I was determined to get more involved and build some friendships. One day I saw a post on Facebook for this sorority. What really drew me in is their three main focuses; individuality, leadership, and respect. What did I think of Rush Week? When I went to the first event, I was expecting it to be a very awkward, and uncomfortable experience. Luckily I was wrong. All of the Sisters were very welcoming and nice. Over the course of the 3 events I went to, I met some really sweet girls and actually started to form some good friendships. Side Note: Rollerskating is way harder than you would expect. Right now, I'm still a Rush and I'm waiting on a bid. Even if I don't get one, I'm really glad I pushed myself and I had this experience. As an introvert, I find it really hard to meet people, but this allowed me to socialize in situations that were a little closer to my comfort zone.
